How long does it take a rotator cuff injury to heal and inflammation to go down?
Unfortunately, I injured BOTH of my shoulders a few months ago. Doing yoga, I put a lot of strain on my muscles in the downward dog pose (I put my body weight on my shoulders which they apparently weren't strong enough to hold up and they became tense and a little shaky). Then, I took a self defense class shortly thereafter that had me doing backward elbow jabs into a padded surface repeatedly. Between these two injuries, I really damaged my shoulders. I haven't been able to determine exactly what the diagnosis is, though tendonitis and bursitis definitely seem like culprits and maybe a muscle tear. I do get the popping/crunching sounds in my shoulder. I am in my early 30s, so I am hopeful that this can heal. I saw an orthopedic surgeon who wanted me to do an MRI with contrast but I am not willing to submit to the trauma of that injection and experience. So, I have been taking anti-inflammatory meds in the morning and at night as well as icing 3-4 times daily. I have been receiving physical therapy treatments where I am getting a few exercises and receiving ultrasound and electrical stimulation. I have been treated for about a month now and I am seeing a little progress, so I am encouraged and hoping I can avoid surgery if I keep working at it. The thing is, I am quite young and I have really good shoulder strength and range of motion given my situation. So, despite the pain, I think I can heal if I continue down this path working on it. I have been consistent about the icing and daily exercises (and as long as the inflammation is down, it doesn't cause discomfort). Any clues at to what might be the culprit given the nature of these injuries? How long until the inflammation drastically reduces on its own when I can start icing it less and less, reduce meds, etc? How long should this process take realistically and are my chances good if my shoulder strength and range of motion is this good? I just get an ache in my upper arms and I notice that external rotator exercises are more difficult (and somewhat painful) in contrast with internal rotation exercises that aren't a problem. FYI: I did do X-rays which revealed no bone spurs and the bones looked healthy and normal... Thank you!

How to check for rotator cuff injury? Please help.?
Is there any exercise in which i could perform to tell me if I have a rotator cuff injury. I get pain if I do overhand activities. Is there some kind of exercise that will give me pain which is saying its the rotator cuff. I am only 15 and absolutely love volleyball. I am hoping to continue it past school. It is probaly the thing I wake up for. Seriously. My shoulders have always been dodgy. Think its double jointed if thats possible as i can like click it out the joint sorta. Its weird anyway i hurt it a couple months ago and let it heal for a few weeks and then came back. It was good for a few weeks then got reinjured. was off for only a week then. Since then my shoulder has been good but last 3 weeks i have been getting like an ache in my shoulder as i play. as the training progresses, the pain in my shoulder does as well. By the end of the training session its pretty sore. I had training thursday and my arm is still sore today (monday) altho i can put up with it. i am really hoping it isnt a tear cuz apparently i might have to get it operated on. I am only young and want to continue volleyball. If anyone has any experiences or advice that would be helpful. i dont really want to go to physio to be honest as I dont want to have to get advised to go to surgery and what not. Good feedback for best answer and will appreciate any help. Any help! thanks heaps I can make the full circle said without any pain however if i did that super fast i would probaly get pain and my shoulder like rolls weirdly when i do that. Like over bone maybe? not like i have no cartlidge but like just rotates funny

I have this stiffness/soreness in the back of my neck (lower left side) that goes through the top?
my shoulder (left side). It's been about 5 weeks. Not too sure how I hurt myself - if i did. It usually flares up when I bend over to lift or pick something up and if I turn a certain way. Sometime I feel a slight ache in the back of my lower left side of the neck when I lift something (it doesn't have to be that heavy too) Doctor thinks it is a pulled muscle. I had an cervical x-ray of the neck and it came back normal. Doctor put me on a muscle relaxer and motrin for 1 week. Still have the symptoms. I have a follow up in a week. Could this be a pulled muscle, herniated disc, pinched nerve, rotator cuff injury or something worse? I'm a worry-wart so any suggustions would be useful. Thanks for everyones help. it is not a constant pain I'm in and I tend to feel better when I wake up in the morning (less pain) i'm 40 years old - and the soreness tends to act up if I bend over especially on the top of the shoulder.

Rotator cuff injury surgery or not!?
my wife has a rotator cuff injury. She went to Trumna Medical Center for an MRI that was "not conclusive" Except to say that she was bone on bone and totally torn tendons. It pops out of joint sometimes. She is convinced she needs surgery which she has been told would only give her 50% of motion as a result. I am not convinced. She had tried no P/T which was recommended for 6 weeks. or any other wholistic approach to this condition. She is set for surgery this friday. I'm still not convinced she neesds it without trying to do something else. She never has believed in Wholistic remedies which I do. I am of the belief in "surgery as an absolute last resort! especially with the MRI she had.. they could not see everything that was wrong. but did say she was bone on bone
